IE (Intuitive Eating) helps us silence the constant tirade of diet culture’s agenda that often leaves us feeling more disconnected than ever.
IE is a way of life and completely opposite to the diet you may be subconsciously thinking about trying. A traditional diet framework involves fixating on a list of specific “good” foods and a specific period of time that will allow you to lose weight. This flawed approach creates an unhealthy relationship with food, your body and often ends up in poor mental health outcomes because of its overly restrictive nature.
The framework surrounding IE is rooted in forming healthy habits while tuning into your body’s cues with all foods on the table.
IE is a habit approach to healthy eating that leads to a domino effect of other beneficial habits in your life that compound into increased energy, mental clarity, stronger immunity, and so much more.
The pillars of the IE framework are as follows:
Honor Your Hunger Cues
All Foods Included
Break-Up with Diet Culture
Practice Body Positivity
Joyful Movement

This depends on each person, some clients like to keep in regular contact as they deepen their own understanding of nutrition and wellness, whilst others have an initial consultation and one follow up session and can then navigate their own way.
But why navigate alone when you can meet with your RD, who has been in your shoes?
Our approach is to hold you accountable to promote progressive changes, which is why we have created three, five and ten week packages. We believe that rather than scheduling a singular follow-up session, scheduling three, five or even seven sessions will motivate you to promote healthy behavior change to help mend your relationship with food to reach your long-term goals.

Here is the 411 of dieting:
May decrease metabolism and teach the body to retain more fat when you start eating again (when you are off of the diet)
May increase cravings and leads to binge eating (due to depriving certain food while on the diet)
Has a 95-97% failure rate and is the #1 predictor of weight gain (because diets are not sustainable, long-term)
May lead to disordered eating (which can set you up for failure)
Yes, you read that correctly.
“Yo-yo” dieting (repetitive cycles of gaining, losing, & regaining weight) has been shown to have negative health effects. Dieting emphasizes food as “good” or “bad”, as a reward or punishment, and increases food obsessions. It does not teach healthy eating habits and rarely focuses on the nutritional value of foods and the benefit of regulated eating. Unsatisfied hunger increases mood swings and risk of overeating.
Ditch the diet and embrace food freedom.

Intuitive Eating is not a weight-loss program. It's not a diet.
Intuitive eating is a concept that’s less rigid than traditional dieting. Instead of weighing your food and counting calories, you eat according to what makes you feel good.
A lot of diets focus on losing weight, but that’s a poor goal to orient yourself toward. Instead, focus on eating so you feel your best. If you feel better, odds are your body is running better, you’re getting healthier AND you are reaching your goals.
When we intutiivley eat, we often acquire a comfortable weight that makes us feel our best self.
Weight loss may inevitably follow, if desired.
If you wish to lose weight, we are able to assist with this as well through a medical nutrition therapy approach.

A diabetes diagnosis often comes with a list of foods you should limit or avoid altogether, but your diet doesn’t have to be so restricted. Having your favorite foods off-limits in the long term can be challenging. For many, this can lead to a cycle of feeling restricted, overeating foods that aren’t “allowed,” and then feeling guilt and shame.
Research has linked intuitive eating with improved blood sugar and A1c levels in type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes, and gestational diabetes. Diabetes Study
You can practice intuitive eating for diabetes by eating when hungry, stopping when full, and listening to what foods make your body feel good. It’s important to be nonjudgmental when monitoring blood sugar readings and carbohydrate counts.
